Resume template tip#2 - Use Design that Grabs Attention

Design here refer to resume structure that we would write. By the time when we submit a resume to a job-ad poster, recruiter may receive bulk on emails with resume softcopy attached on them and not to mention tons of application envelope with resume hardcopy enclosed. An eye catching and fully informative to recruiter's demanding information will bring a very good first impression on our resume as they would get boring and fatigue to iterace each of resume that would received. 

First tip is intended to bring recruiter interest to read more on our resume, while resume design is a shortcut for recruiter to find our strength on our resume. I would recommend to put information like skills, job and experiences on top 5 section that will appear on our resume. Below design are recomended as top 5 section to be appeared on our resume:

Job Title Expected

General Overview of our skills that explain why we should be shortlisted for applied job title

General Information (Name, Gender and Age)

Skills (provide our proficiency level and number of years work with this skills if applicable)

Job Experience

Resume template tip#1 - Use titles or heading that match the jobs you want

When a job advertisement is published, employers may received tons of application on their inbox. Your resume would need something that can hooks employers attention on very first 5 second glance. A proper heading that highlight your title and job skills that matches with position that looking for by employers would be a great way to do so.

Most people get wrong by put their general information like birthday, gender, citizen, etc on very first level of their resume, trust me, that weren't things that looking for by your employer. Those information are important, yes, but ... it would be important later, when employers believe that you are the correct candidate that should be brought to next level of recruitment process.

See sample of resume above, that was resume posted by my husband about 3 years back on one of popular online job site, instead of show his general information, he show role he is good at and he convenience with, and prior to give his name again he highlight his capability, and you may believe it or not, till now there are still headhunter who read this resume and ask him for interview, amazing isn't? see how would be happen if he only wrote on his resume heading as follow:

Arief Darmawan
Dynamics Ax Consultant

Don't you think employers will receive tons of resume who has same heading as above, and he/she will need to go further just to know about his expertise, level of experience, etc ... :)

So ... evaluate yourself, find your strength and in less than 10 words summary them, plus prepare a paragraph of more detail on that strength ;)

Understanding a resume

Okay, before we start on how to build a better resume or download a resume template, lets talk first about what a resume is? why we need to do this? because by understanding concept of a resume, then we will be able to define what is best format to be taken as our resume template, agree ? ... :) yes ... keep reading then.

 

Wiki says resume is document that contains a summary or listing of relevant job experience and education. The resume or CV is typically the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview, when seeking employment. Check on bold formatted text above, that's function of a resume, to bring employer attention on our application.

Resume will not show employer what you can do, it just a tool to bring you to next level of recruitment process. For so, we need to know what factors would attract employer to read on our resume, would that be a 26 detailed inflammations on our life story or a 1 page summary would be enough to satisfy them.
